In Bloom Spotlight on Succulent Plants

While vacationing in St. Barth's a few weeks ago, I noticed that the island was covered with various types of Succulent plants - they blanketed the mountain and hill tops and stretched all the way down to the beach.  Succulents are water retaining plants and survive in extreme heat and changing weather, which made the island terrain ideal for these plants.  Since they have the ability to store water for longer periods of time, these resilient plants can live weeks without a drop of rain.  This ability makes the texture of the plant more swollen and are sometimes referred to as "fat plants".

My favorite succulent plant is the Jade.  It is one of the most popular houseplants worldwide, mainly because it requires very little care and maintenance.  However, as common as it is, the plant can grow to become vary large and is quite beautiful when grown in the wild.

Using succulents for weddings and events is a great idea because they are so versatile.  A few different varieties potted in a beautiful urn can become a gorgeous centerpiece.  Small succulents in tiny terracotta pots can be a chic way to present an escort card. They can also serve as a great, lasting party favor for your guests to take home.

Here is a sample of some of the new succulents we have in stock at the Plant Shed store on 209 West 9th Street.
